Originally constructed as a market in 1924, the Streamline Moderne facade resulted from post-earthquake repairs. Acres of Books has been a family-run business in Long Beach for more than 50 years, moving to this location in 1960. Bertram Smith, its founder, was a nationally known antiquarian book dealer, who donated a sizeable collection of rare books to the Long Beach Public library.
