Use these tips to substantially reduce your unwanted mail. Remember to recycle junk mail, catalogs, and any other unwanted mixed paper. 

Unsubscribe From Mailing Lists

• Save (formerly RetailMeNot Everyday) – unaddressed flyers, grocery advertisements
• Valpak – coupon packs 
• Direct Mailing Association (DMA) – credit offers, catalogs, magazine offers, the bulk of your junk mail
  • Businesses and organizations subscribe to the Direct Mailing Association (DMA) to access the largest mailing list in the country. Register on their website to select your mailing list preferences. Once submitted, your request may take up to 90 days to take effect. If you want to remain on a particular mailing list, notify the business individually. 
    

Opt-Out of Credit Card Offers  

To opt-out of preapproved or prescreened credit card or insurance offers, visit OptOutPrescreen.com or call the Credit Reporting Industry Prescreening Opt-Out Number at 1-888-5-OPTOUT (1-888-567-8688). You can opt-out for five years electronically, or print out a “permanent opt-out by mail” form from the website. 

Prevent Unsolicited Door Flyers 

Attach our free “Stop! No Advertisements!” sign to your mailbox, front door, and any other place that you get unsolicited flyers. Users have reported a reduction in the number of flyers received when using this sign. 

Protect Yourself from Future Junk Mail 

Think twice before entering a contest, joining a store’s loyalty card program, filling out a “consumer” survey, or sending in a warranty card. Your name could go on a mailing list that gets sold to or shared with other companies, resulting in more junk mail.
