Taxiway F Project

Long Beach Airport (LGB) has been awarded a $27 million Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airport Infrastructure Grant to reconstruct Taxiway F. The project strengthens the Airports’ roadways and improves aerial visibility.

Project Overview 

  • Total cost: $30 million 

  • Funding: More than 90% federal; remaining costs from Airport revenue (no local tax dollars)

Key proposed upgrades include:   

  • Reconstruction and realignment of Taxiway F from Taxiway D to Taxiway F5.

  • Width reduction from 100-ft to 75-ft to improve visual conspicuity and differentiation from Runway 26L

  • Centerline alignment to be relocated approximately 26-ft north to increase separation between Taxiway F and leasehold aprons.

  • Approximately 550,000 square feet of taxiway pavement will be reconstructed including restoration of pavement markings, lighting, signage and appurtenant drainage systems.

  • Preliminarily overall construction duration anticipated to be 13 months (not including three months for mobilization)

  • Construction will be phased to maintain limited access and minimize disruption to operations.

Operations

  • Commercial flights will not be impacted as the majority do not use this taxiway and LGB has other taxiways for utilization.

  • Runway 08R/26L is planned to remain fully operational throughout the project .

  • FAA Tower does not anticipate that there will be runway utilization changes as a result of this project.
