Passenger Concourse Enhancement Project

Long Beach Airport (LGB) has been awarded a $24.3 million Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airport Infrastructure Grant to modernize the passenger concourse. The project strengthens the City’s gateway as it prepares to welcome visitors for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic Games and will go before the Long Beach City Council in October 2025 for consideration. 

Project Overview 

  • Total cost: $37 million 

  • Funding: More than 60% federal; remaining costs from Airport revenue (no local tax dollars) 

  • Jobs: Over 190 local construction jobs, boosting the regional economy 

Key proposed upgrades include:   

  • Remodeling of the existing 11 gate areas, restrooms, and a new service animal relief area.  

  • Improvements to the existing central garden area including additional hardscape, seating, canopies, lighting, and a public announcement system.  

  • Upgraded seating with charging stations.  

  • Creation of two open-air garden areas at the exterior of the north and south concourse.  

  • Enhanced wayfinding signage and flight information displays  

  • Installation of a back-up generator and upgraded mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.  

  • Incorporating sustainability features including LED lighting  

  • Extension of the exterior pedestrian canopy to Pad 11. 

Sustainability 

  • LEED Silver foundation 

  • 95% recycling/reuse requirement for construction debris 

  • All lighting converted to LED 

Economic Impact 

  • Over 190 construction jobs 

  • Supports Long Beach’s $9B airport-related economy
