Volunteer Opportunities

Long Beach Airport (LGB) has established a volunteer program of individuals who serve in various capacities at and around the airport. Volunteers come from many different backgrounds but all are enthusiastic and love to educate others. If you enjoy people, or have an interest in local aviation history, this may be the volunteer opportunity for you! We offer different roles in which you can help:

Travel Ambassador - Our Travel Ambassadors are responsible for greeting and assisting passengers at the airport. A friendly face and knowledge of airport layout, transportation and Long Beach activities are key to making Long Beach Airport “where the going is easy.” Ambassadors may also be asked on occasion to escort people throughout the airport.

Airport Tour Guide/Escort: Many groups and individuals tour Long Beach Airport. Schools, scouts, clubs, and the general public have all experienced tours tailored to fit their interests. Tour Guides are trained in the operation and rich history of the airport, and have the opportunity to educate visitors. We even invite our own LGB firefighters to share their knowledge (schedule permitting). Tour Aids do not conduct tours, but are needed to assist the Tour Guides in keeping the group together.

Community Outreach/Event Support: The City of Long Beach is host to numerous special events every year, and the airport is on hand to support many of them. LGB has had a presence at such diverse events as the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, “First Fridays” in Bixby Knolls, and the “Ready Long Beach” emergency preparedness event, where information and airport promotional items are given to attendees. The airport also hosts events such as the annual Festival of Flight and the LGB Live! seasonal music series.

LGB volunteers play an important role in representing the airport as a friendly neighbor. They act as liaisons between the airport and the community, interacting with the public and promoting goodwill. Volunteers also provide important event support, such as assisting the airport booth at events or acting as an escort for musicians and vendors.

Therapy Dog Ambassador: Long Beach Airport is a very community-oriented facility and accommodates travelers with pets and service animals. LGB's STARS (Simple Therapy And Real Smiles) program welcomes trained therapy dogs (and their owners) to relieve stress to travelers who are in need and bring smiles to their faces.
