Make your own video games with the Long Beach Public Library Studio! Learn to design, visualize, build and test in the Bitsy game engine during this five-week summer workshop series for teens.
Make.Create.Design: Video Games is free, virtual, and open to 7th - 12th grade students of all skill levels!

Due to the high level of interest in this workshop series, we will be giving priority to residents of Long Beach, CA. New registrations outside of the Long Beach area will be placed on the waitlist for this event.
Intro Week: Thursday, 6/24 from 2:00 - 4:30 pm
In Intro Week, learn how to use Bitsy to make little games with big potential!
Storytelling Week: Thursday, 7/1 from 2:00 – 4:30 pm
In Storytelling Week, build a game that tells your story with dialogue and special effects!
Art Week: Thursday, 7/8 from 2:00 – 4:30 pm
In Art Week, bring your games to life with color, texture, and animation!
Gameplay Week: Thursday, 7/15 from 2:00 – 4:30 pm
In Gameplay Week, build challenges and interactions for your game with Bitsy programming!
Wrap-Up Week: Thursday, 7/22 from 2:00 – 4:30 pm
In Wrap-Up Week, share and celebrate your games, and sit down to talk with pro game developers!
How can I participate? Sign up for free on our Eventbrite page here! All sessions of Make.Create.Design: Video Games will be hosted virtually on Zoom. Participants will receive a Zoom link via email a day prior to each workshop.
Who is this workshop for? This workshop is open to 7th –12th grade students who are interested in learning about game development. No prior experience is needed! We will be giving priority registration to residents of our community in Long Beach, CA.
What will I need? You will need internet access and a computer capable of running Zoom and the online game engine Bitsy. Visit Bitsy here to test its compatibility with your device. You will also need a pencil and paper or notebook to plan out your game ideas!
Do I have to attend each workshop? Attending all the workshops is highly encouraged, but not required.
