Dive Into Learning

Got a little one ages 0 to 5? Join Dive Into Learning, our early learning program, at the Long Beach Public Library. Dive Into Learning encourages families to read 1,000 books with their children before they enter kindergarten, provides activities and workshops to get little ones ready for school, and supports caregivers as their children’s first teachers.

To participate in this year-round early literacy program for LBPL's youngest readers, visit Beanstack or download the app from Google Play or the App Store. You can also pick up a paper reading tracker at any LBPL location.

How Does it Work?

  1. Create your account on the Library’s Beanstack site and register for the Dive Into Learning challenge.
  2. Use the Beanstack website or mobile app to track the books you and your child read together.
  3. For every 100 books you read, visit any library to pick up your prize.
  4. When you complete 1,000 books, visit the library to receive your final prize.

How Long Does it Take?

1,000 books may seem like a lot of books, but let's do the math...

Reading just one book a night means you'll read:

  • 365 books in a year
  • 730 books in two years
  • 1,095 books in three years!

Imagine if you read 2 books a night? Or 3?

Most kids start kindergarten around age 5, so there's plenty of time. You can do this! Along the way you can also earn prizes for completing school readiness activities from the Activity Badges in Beanstack, and attend programs and workshops to support you as a caregiver.

Dive Into Reading Events

Long Beach Public Library will host Dive Into Learning events just for program participants throughout the year.

These events include special performers, workshops for parents, crafts, school readiness activities, and other programs that are great for families with little ones.

See our quarterly Dive Into Learning calendar or Event Calendar for upcoming programs.

¿Cómo inscribo a mi niño o niña?

¿Mil libros? ¿Cuánto tiempo va durar este programa?

¡No te asustes!
