Brewitt Neighborhood Library
After serving the public from numerous locations since 1920, the East Long Beach branch library opened at its permanent address on August 30, 1948. At the time, the Long Beach Independent called the new building, “the first completely functional modern library in the city.” In 1955, the branch was renamed in honor of former Long Beach City Librarian (1921-1950), Theodora Brewitt, who had led the library system through a period of intense growth and national recognition. At only 5,225 square feet, the Brewitt branch continues the tradition of friendly library service to the neighborhood.
