Beginning Monday, August 28, 2023, the Alamitos, Harte, and Michelle Obama Neighborhood Libraries will offer an additional day of service on Mondays.


As of Monday, August 14, the Bay Shore Neighborhood Library will temporarily close for a scheduled renovation. All services at Bay Shore, including book drops, will be unavailable.

Vida Latina 2022

From September 10 to November 2, the Long Beach Public Library will host Vida Latina, a celebration of Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month. This year's series will present a mix of in-person and virtual events on the library’s  Facebook  page.

Vida Latina will cover an array of topics, including Hispanic/Latinx folk art, herbal remedy demonstrationssexual health workshops for teens and their caregiversbilingual storytimes, crafts, movie nights, a poetry workshop for teens, and community offering for the Day of the Dead. Other highlights include Mercadito Literario, a family-friendly literary fair highlighting Hispanic and Latinx authors, poets, small business, and local community resources. Mercadito Literario is scheduled for Saturday, October 15, 2022. 

“Vida Latina is a wonderful opportunity to come together and to celebrate and uplift the experiences of Long Beach’s Hispanic and Latinx community,” said Cathy De Leon, Director of Library Services. “Last year’s programs welcomed over 2,600 participants, a true indicator that these events and workshops are valued by and reflective of our residents."
