Measure RW - Tourism Workers Rising

Richardson was a leading advocate for Measure RW, passed in March 2024, which raised minimum wages and improved working conditions for hotel and hospitality workers in Long Beach. The measure ensured fair compensation, rest breaks, and job security provisions for frontline service workers, reinforcing the city’s commitment to economic justice and labor rights within the city’s thriving tourism and hospitality sector

Measure JB - The Long Beach Jobs Promise

Mayor Richardson also championed Measure JB, a comprehensive civil service reform initiative approved by voters in November 2024. The measure modernized Long Beach’s hiring system to reduce barriers for local applicants, streamline onboarding processes, and expand access to good-paying public sector union jobs with the City of Long Beach. The measure introduced one of the strongest local hire preference programs in the country, aimed at giving local youth, students, and underserved communities better access to public service careers. With a goal of achieving 90-day hiring timelines, Measure JB represents a cornerstone of Richardson’s broader “Grow Long Beach” strategy to build an inclusive and representative city workforce.
