New Bayshore and Leeway Sailing Center ImprovementsRelease Date: 2018-06-13
Just in time for summer, we are excited to unveil the new Bayshore and Leeway Sailing Center improvements. You are invited to join us this Saturday at 11 am to see the new pier, swim dock, water play structure, and Sailing Center upgrades. Councilwoman Suzie Price, our city team and staff have worked hard to bring this community driven project to completion and I'm excited to join the celebration this weekend.
At the Leeway Sailing Center the pier, dock, gangway and concessions building on the pier were rebuilt and the facility received structural, foundation, and aesthetic improvements. At Bayshore, the concessions stand received new paint and façade improvements and the swim dock and pier were rebuilt. The truly fun part will be the new waterplay structure that was installed in time for the summer season. The waterplay structure, pictured above, which is called a wibit, will be open to the public free of charge throughout the summer months. It's perfect for the kids and the kids at heart.
The construction cost was approximately $2.5 million for the Leeway Center Improvements and approximately $500,000 for the Bayshore area improvements. These improvements were funded by the City’s Tidelands Fund, which is a restricted fund that can only be used in the City’s tidelands area. I hope you will come on Saturday for the grand opening.
