Opening a Business Just Got EasierRelease Date: 2016-10-05
The City of Long Beach is working hard to make it easier for small businesses to start up, succeed, and grow. That’s why today we launched BizPort, our new business portal that provides important resources for entrepreneurs and streamlines business licensing, permitting, and financing.
The Long Beach business community is extremely diverse, and there are thousands of small businesses in Long Beach. To keep our economy and community strong, we need to do everything possible to support local employers and entrepreneurs. The City has been working closely with local business owners, associations and colleges to develop solutions to the challenges small businesses face and to provide them the support they need. BizPort’s development was generously supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies, Code for America, the U.S. Small Business Administration and the James Irvine Foundation.
BizPort can match a business with financing and other resources. It can speed up the license renewal process and offers a live chat feature to connect business owners with the appropriate city staff. BizPort provides a checklist to ensure owners know what they need to do to get their business started. It also ties together in one place the online services business owners need and use. And BizPort includes a translation feature to make sure language isn’t a barrier for business owners.
You can learn about BizPort, and other innovative ways we are supporting businesses large and small, at the Long Beach Innovation Summit - Tomorrow, Thursday, October 6 from 9 am to 4 pm at the LB Convention Center. This day-long event sponsored by the City is an opportunity to learn about outstanding cutting edge innovation in the public sector – and the Summit is free. I hope you can join me – especially if you are a business owner.

BizPort is just one step we are taking to improve the City’s support for our business community. We will keep working hard to provide more support and resources to our local businesses and entrepreneurs.
