We're Expanding the AquariumRelease Date: 2018-01-31
Yesterday I got to sign the final beam to top off the expansion of the Aquarium of the Pacific. Pacific Visions will be a 29,000-square-foot addition to our extremely popular Aquarium. The new state-of-the-art exhibits and theatre will feature the impacts of climate change and provide opportunities for kids and families to learn even more about our oceans and ocean life. Millions already visit our Aquarium each year and this expansion will also boost our local economy.
Pacific Visions is designed as a biomorphic structure that suggests the form of a whale. The wing will house an immersive theater, expanded special exhibition and art galleries and additional space for live animal exhibits. With more than 1.6 million visitors annually, Pacific Visions will attract even more people to see this beautiful addition along the water.
The expansion will also provide a revitalized front plaza and increased space for installations, performances, and cultural events. Pacific Visions will be a new focal point of the Aquarium to offer visitors innovative ways to understand our connections to Earth, the World Ocean, and contemporary scientific research. I look forward to the grand opening which is slated for spring 2019.
