Climate Protection Award

Release Date: 2017-07-10

I am excited to share with you that Long Beach has won 1st place at the Climate Protection Awards at the U.S. Conference of Mayors. This award recognizes cities for their energy and climate protection efforts and I was honored to accept this award on behalf of our community.

We would not have won this award without the incredible leadership from our Harbor Department. The Port of Long Beach's Clean Air Action Plan has dramatically reduced greenhouse gas emissions and improved air quality. We are also committed to enacting the Paris Climate Agreement regardless of what's happening in Washington D.C.

By planting thousands of new trees, transitioning our street lights to energy efficient LEDs, and putting zero emission buses on our streets, Long Beach will continue to lead in our efforts to protect our climate. At the U.S. Conference of Mayors, my colleagues are asking me how they can also enact similar programs, and I'm proud our efforts are making Long Beach noticed by the nation.

Go Long Beach,

Mayor Robert Garcia
