Long Beach Police Academy GraduationRelease Date: 2017-12-06
I was happy to participate last week in the Long Beach Police Department's latest Academy Graduation, for Academy Class #91. The graduation at the Long Beach Performing Arts Terrace Theater was another example of our ability, thanks in large part to Measure A funding passed by Long Beach voters in 2016, to improve safety in our city.
Forty Long Beach Police Department recruits successfully completed 25 weeks of intense academic, physical and practical training in areas such as: Patrol Procedures and Law Enforcement Tactics, Firearms Training, Weaponless Defense, Criminal Law, Vehicle Operations, Community Oriented Public Safety, Persons with Mental Health Disabilities, Cultural Diversity/Human Relations, and Procedural Justice.
Class #91 brings a wide range of talents from a variety of backgrounds to the department. Since I became Mayor, we have increased the number of police academies and graduated 170 officers. Most of these graduates are now connecting with our neighborhoods, getting to know our city, and keeping our streets safer.
I congratulate our newest officers and look forward to seeing them around Long Beach.
