Network security Incident Updates
Background
The City experienced a cybersecurity incident on or about November 14, 2023. As soon as we discovered that an unauthorized third party gained access to our network, we immediately initiated a thorough and detailed technical investigation with the assistance of external information technology experts, we notified our community and we took our systems offline. In the following weeks, we fully restored most of our systems and brought them back online. As part of our investigation, we have been working very closely with leading, external cybersecurity professionals experienced in handling these types of incidents. The City also notified law enforcement.

Oct. 7, 2024, Update: The City continues to work with third-party cybersecurity professionals to determine the nature and scope of data that was taken. One primary objective of the investigation is to determine whether individuals’ personal information was accessed and/or acquired as a result of the incident. Should the City determine personal information was compromised, the City will notify any affected individuals via U.S. mail as soon as reasonably possible. Further, should the City discover that individuals’ Social Security number was accessed and/or acquired, the City will provide credit monitoring services and other support to those individuals. This process of identifying specific individuals’ sensitive information is incredibly detailed, time-intensive, can be lengthy and has been ongoing to date. Progress is being made and the process may be close to completion in the upcoming months.
