Annually serving as the host course for the Long Beach Open – one of the most respected non-PGA Tour-affiliated professional mini-tour events in the country – El Dorado is a wonderful, tree-lined test of golf which originally opened in 1962, and when the clubhouse was built in 1964, the course was re-routed and a few holes redesigned by renowned architect Ted Robinson.
The course is known for its approximately 1,500 trees, most of which were planted in the early 1970s by then Head Professional Monty Blodgett, who was inducted into the Long Beach Golf Hall of Fame in 2003. As many of those trees age and/or suffer impacts from drought conditions, many are being removed and approximately 70 new trees have been strategically planted since 2013 to maintain the long-term, tree-lined feel of the course. A renovation of bunkers and water features was completed in 2001, and as golf balls continue to go farther, the City of Long Beach and American Golf have implemented a goal of renovating many of the remaining bunkers on an annual basis.
El Dorado accommodates scores of banquets and other functions throughout the years. For information contact the Banquet Manager at (562) 795-7751, ext. 229.
