Youth Sports
The mission of the Recreational Youth Sports Program is to provide an enjoyable experience for each youth participant, while developing character, skills, sportsmanship, perseverance, responsibility and a healthy future.
The City of Long Beach Youth Sports Program is free to all participants and consists of a variety of sports opportunities throughout the year for boys and girls ages 5-14 years. Participants register individually and are placed on teams at Long Beach parks. Each season consists of six games with no playoffs. Emphasis is placed on participation and skill development with a season full of:
- For a fun, safe, positive environment in which to participate
- To participate under the supervision of positive role models that will help focus on developing skills, teamwork, sportsmanship and how to win and lose graciously
- For each participant to play regardless of skill or ability
- To build self-confidence and self-esteem while respecting oneself and others
- To develop self discipline, responsibility, leadership and the desire to succeed
- To build friendships
- To continue to improve and enhance the quality of your youth sports experience
