The Community Engagement Division is responsible for the Business Desk operations, Live Scan services, Media Relations Detail, and volunteer opportunities.

Public Safety Building Business Desk

The Business Desk staff provide information pertaining to inmates, answer inquiries regarding public safety, crime, and department procedures as well as other services. They file police reports such as lost personal articles, auto burglaries, and identity theft. Reports are limited to those where the victim can provide no suspect information. All other reports should be made by calling either 9-1-1 in an emergency or LBPD Dispatch at (562) 435-6711.

Live Scan

Live Scan is digital fingerprinting that is utilized for criminal background checks. Long Beach Police Department provides Live Scan services to the public for state licensing, employment, adoptions/foster care, etc. The current fee for this service is $32.00, payable in cash or check only. Credit cards are not accepted. Additional fees for criminal history processing by the California Department of Justice and/or Federal Bureau of Investigation are also payable at the time the Live Scan is performed.

Live Scan services are provided to the public by appointment only during the following days and times:

Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 2:00PM 

Live Scan services for city employees, city employee applicants, and volunteers are completed on a walk-in basis during the following hours:

Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Tuesday & Thursday 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM
Employees may also request an appointment if needed.
