Police Explorer Program

The Department has established an Explorer program for youth between the ages of 14 and 20 who are interested in a law enforcement career. The program helps to open up important avenues of understanding with energetic young adults. As a member of the Explorer Post, you will get a head start in the exciting, fast-paced world of law enforcement.

Search and Rescue Program

In a combined effort between the Long Beach Police and Fire Departments, a specialized explorer post has been established for youth ages 15-19 years old who are interested in exploring career possibilities in the law enforcement, fire protection and emergency medical services fields.

Youth Leadership Academy

The Long Beach Police Department Youth Leadership Academy is a free weeklong program which provides a platform for Long Beach youth to develop essential leadership skills while fostering positive relationships with law enforcement.

The 2024 Youth Leadership Academy will take place from Monday, June 17 to Friday, June 21 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Cabrillo High School.

High school students are required to apply by June 1st by contacting: LBPDCommunityEngagement@longbeach.gov

Police Cadet Program

The Youth & Community Engagement Division of the Long Beach Police Department is looking for highly motivated young adults between the ages of 18 - 24 enrolled in an accredited college or university with a minimum of a 2.0 GPA or a recent graduate to join our team of youth leaders in serving our beautiful city.
