On February 24, 2016, multiple felony charges were filed against two suspects for their involvement in multiple street robberies that occurred in West Division.

Between January 18, 2016, and February 5, 2016, a male and female suspect robbed multiple victims of their personal property. The suspects armed with a knife would approach unsuspecting pedestrians and demand money, and personal items from them. Fortunately none of the victims were injured during the robberies.

Patrol Officers along with Robbery and Gang Enforcement detectives began analyzing the evidence and identified two possible suspects responsible for the series of robberies.

On February 7,, 2016, a patrol officer arrested Miguel Angel Giron, 22 year-old, resident of Los Angeles, and Daisy Uzarraga, 25 year-old, resident of Wilmington for their involvement in the robberies. Detectives presented the case to the District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration on February 9th, and six felony counts of robbery were filed on each suspect respectively. They were arraigned the same day and Giron was held on $405,000.00 bail and Uzarraga was held on $300,000.00 bail.

As the suspects remained in custody, detectives believed they were responsible for additional crimes and continued their investigation. They found additional robberies the suspects committed, and on February 18th detectives presented the remaining cases to the District Attorney’s Office. The complaint was amended on February 24, 2016, and suspect Miguel Giron was charged with a total of fourteen felonies: nine counts of robbery, three counts of criminal threats, one count of assault with a deadly weapon, and one count of attempt robbery. Defendant Daisy Uzarraga was charged with eleven felonies: ten counts of robbery and one count of criminal threats.

Defendant Giron’s bail was increased to $605,000.00 and defendant Uzarraga’s bail was increased to $400,000.00. Both defendants are in the custody of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and are expected to return to Long Beach Superior Court on March 9, 2016 at 8:30 a.m. in Department J.
