Homicide detectives are investigating an April 20, 2025 assault and robbery that later resulted in the death of a male adult victim.
On April 20, 2025, at approximately 9:43 p.m., officers responded to the 800 block of Elm Avenue regarding a robbery.
The preliminary investigation at the time indicated the male adult victim was trying to enter his residential property when he was assaulted and robbed by a group of subjects. The victim sustained a spinal cord injury and was transported to the hospital by Long Beach Fire personnel.
The victim died on Sept. 17, 2025.
On Dec. 23, 2025, Homicide detectives were notified by the Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner that the manner of death was homicide, caused by blunt force trauma sustained from the assault.
The victim has been identified as Jose Eduardo Viveros, a 73-year-old resident of Long Beach.
Homicide detectives are actively investigating this incident. The suspects were described as 3 to 4 male adults and possibly 1 female adult and it is believed that they remained in the general area, following the incident.
