Today marked Day One of the Long Beach Police Department’s Academy Class 100, with 98 recruits beginning their training at the Long Beach Police Academy, a modern facility designed to support expanded class sizes and enhanced training opportunities. The updated academy provides improved classrooms and training spaces for both recruit and advanced officer instruction.
Class 100 is the largest police academy class in department history, and will complete a comprehensive training program designed to prepare recruits for the responsibilities of serving as police officers. Instruction includes criminal law, patrol procedures, firearms training, defensive tactics, physical fitness, emergency vehicle operations, and community-focused policing.
The Department’s ability to welcome its largest academy class to date reflects continued recruitment efforts, with 102 individuals hired during this cycle. This achievement is a direct result of the dedication and professionalism of sworn and professional staff who support recruitment, training, and operations. Their commitment contributes to a workplace culture that continues to attract individuals seeking a career in public service.
Upon successful completion of the academy and field training requirements, recruits will be deployed throughout the City of Long Beach to serve the community as sworn police officers.
