The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) has launched a new interactive Crime Dashboard designed to provide the community with easy access to timely, accurate crime statistics and reporting data citywide. This dashboard enables residents to explore crime in their neighborhoods, reinforcing the LBPD's commitment to transparency and accountability.

“In support of our ongoing commitment to transparency, accountability, and community-focused information sharing, we’re proud to announce the launch of our new public-facing Crime Dashboard,” said Chief of Police Wally Hebeish. “I would like to recognize and thank the many employees from the Police Department and Technology and Innovation Department for the work they have done to make this a reality - their work is a testament to their commitment to enhancing safety citywide.”

The new crime dashboard consists of four main sections: City Overview, Crime Trends, Beat Explorer, and Extract Page.

• The City Overview page provides a detailed summary of crime trends and allows users to filter by date range. It provides an overview of total offenses and breaks them down by crimes against persons, property, and society. For each data point, users can view the total offenses within the selected time frame, compare it to the same statistic from the previous year, see the percentage change, and find the average number of offenses per day. Additionally, a table provides a more detailed view of each individual offense type, along with a monthly trend chart.
• The Crime Trends page offers insights into crime trends in various ways. Users can filter by time range, division, and offense type. The page features a monthly trend chart, displays the most common offense types, and provides a breakdown of offenses by beat and division. It also presents data on crimes by time of day and day of the week, with user-friendly filters available throughout.
• The Beat Explorer page allows users to gain additional insights into crime within their specific police beat and displays a map showing crime density across different police beats.
• The Extract Page offers customized data extraction options through various filters, enabling users to download data to perform their own analyses while ensuring the privacy of sensitive information.

This new resource will replace the monthly crime statistics PDFs published on the Department’s website. The Department will continue to publish PDFs through January 2026. After that date, an archive of previously published PDFs will still be available on our Crime Statistics Archive webpage. The dashboard provides the same information in a more modern, dynamic, and user-friendly format. With customizable views, filters, and visuals, users can now analyze crime data in ways that best suit their needs.

The dashboard refreshes daily, with a 21-day delay for crime incident reporting, ensuring the most accurate data is being presented.

In an effort to educate and inform residents on how to use the dashboard, the LBPD has developed a step-by-step video tutorial walking users through the dashboard features.
