Through coordinated enforcement efforts, officers made one arrest, cited five subjects for vehicle code violations, and towed five illegal electric motorcycles (e-motos) and one illegal pocket bike related to a group riding recklessly throughout the city of Long Beach.
On March 27, 2026, at approximately 4:22 p.m., the Long Beach Police Department became aware of a group of approximately 50 subjects riding illegal e-motos, illegal pocket bikes, and e-bikes recklessly throughout the city. A coordinated plan was developed to maintain safety and take enforcement action where appropriate, including resources from the South Division, West Division, and Air Support Unit.
Officers responded and conducted proactive enforcement action related to reckless driving and vehicle code violations.
- Officers arrested a 17-year-old male for reckless driving-related booking charges.
- Officers cited five subjects for vehicle code violations.
- Officers towed five illegal e-motos and one illegal pocket bike.
“After learning about this large group, officers from multiple divisions worked together to impact the significant public safety risk these illegal e-bikes/pocket bikes can pose,” said Chief of Police Wally Hebeish. “Traffic safety remains a priority for the Long Beach Police Department, and we are committed to supporting this collaborative work in our city. Anyone who chooses to participate in reckless, illegal driving on our streets should be aware that we will continue to cite, arrest, and seize vehicles of those involved. I want to commend our police officers for once again using available resources to keep us all safe.”
The Long Beach Police Department will continue proactive enforcement and encourages community members to report illegal street activity. Illegal street takeover incidents are dangerous and not tolerated in Long Beach. Officers will continue to cite, arrest, and/or seize the vehicles of those who choose to participate in these gatherings and associated crimes.
