Update 12/11/2025:
Homicide detectives have made an arrest regarding the Oct. 23, 2025 murder of Dajuan Hunt.
Through their investigation, Homicide detectives identified Freddie Lamont Key Jr., a 40-year-old person experiencing homelessness, as the suspect responsible for the murder. On Dec. 10, 2025, Special Investigations Division detectives located and arrested Key Jr. in the 2600 block of South Street in Long Beach. He was booked for an outstanding warrant and then rebooked for murder. Bail was set at $2,000,000.
The motive and circumstances of the incident are under investigation.
The victim was identified as Dajuan Hunt, a 39-year-old person experiencing homelessness.
Detectives have presented the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office for filing consideration.

Homicide detectives are investigating the murder of a male adult that occurred on Oct. 23, 2025, near the 5300 block of Cherry Avenue.
At approximately 9:45 p.m., officers responded to the railroad right-of-way near the 5300 block of Cherry Avenue regarding a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a male adult victim with a gunshot wound to the upper body. Officers rendered medical aid until relieved by paramedics from the Long Beach Fire Department, who transported the victim to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Homicide detectives responded to the scene, and the motive and circumstances of the incident are under investigation.
The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner.
