On November 22, 2019, at approximately 10:55 p.m., officers were dispatched to a shots call in the 1500 block of Magnolia Avenue, which resulted in the death of a male adult.
Once officers arrived on scene they located a victim with gunshot wounds to the upper torso. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded and transported the victim to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The victim has been identified as 36-year-old Jaime Ruiz of Long Beach.
The preliminary investigation revealed that prior to the shooting, the victim and two additional victims were outside of a residence when the shooting took place. A male adult suspect approached the group, a verbal exchange occurred and the suspect then opened fire at all three victims, fleeing the scene before officers’ arrival. The additional two victims were uninjured.
A description of the suspect is currently unknown; however, the shooting is being investigated as gang-related.
