Update 6/16/25:
Homicide detectives have made an arrest regarding the June 14, 2025 murder of Jesse Stiles, a 43-year-old resident of Long Beach.
Through their investigation, Homicide detectives identified the suspect as Orlando Joel Villarreal, a 41-year-old resident of Long Beach. Detectives located and arrested Villarreal on June 15, 2025 in the city of Carson. Villarreal was booked for murder, and his bail was set at $2,000,000.
The motive remains under investigation.
Detectives will present the case later this week to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.

Original News Release 6/15/24:
Homicide detectives are investigating the murder of a male adult that occurred on June 14, 2025, in the area of 17th Street and Santa Fe Avenue.
At approximately 11:31 a.m., officers responded to a report of a person who had been shot. Upon arrival, officers located a male adult victim with a gunshot wound to the upper body. Officers rendered medical aid until being relieved by the Long Beach Fire Department. Fire Department personnel transported the victim to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Homicide detectives are investigating the motive and circumstances leading up to the shooting and are working to identify a possible suspect(s).
The victim has been identified as Jesse Stiles, a 43-year-old resident of Long Beach.
