On July 11, 2021, at approximately 9:13 a.m., officers were dispatched to a report of shots fired in the 300 block of East 17th Street, which later resulted in the death of a male adult.

Officers arrived on scene and located a male adult victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to the upper and lower torso. They immediately began performing life-saving measures until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived on scene to render aid. The victim was transported by ambulance to an area hospital where he was listed in critical condition. Later that evening, at approximately 7:00 p.m., Homicide Detectives responded to the scene after receiving notification the victim succumbed to his injuries.

The victim has been identified as Bernardo Solorio, a 37-year-old Long Beach resident.

The preliminary investigation suggests a male suspect followed the victim on foot to an apartment complex. The suspect opened fire on the victim before fleeing the area on foot toward Long Beach Boulevard. Gang detectives initially responded to canvass the scene for witnesses and evidence. While the motive is not yet known, the case is currently being investigated as gang-related.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact Homicide Detectives Eric Thai or Juan Carlos Reyes at (562) 570-7244.
