Update Published 1/20/23:

On Jan. 9, 2023, Special Investigations Division detectives and Coordinated Response Team officers located and arrested Seth Gomes, a 33-year-old resident of Long Beach for the Dec. 20, 2022, murder of Kevin Magana, a 30-year-old resident of the City of Long Beach.

Detectives located Gomes in the City of Long Beach near the 3800 block of Long Beach Boulevard and subsequently took him into custody. He was booked for one count of murder and is currently being held on a $2,000,000 bail.

Homicide detectives will soon be presenting the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.

At this time, detectives are still actively working to determine the motive for this incident and the investigation remains ongoing.

Original Release Published 12/20/22: 
On Dec. 20, 2022, at approximately 5:13 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Atlantic Avenue and Del Amo Boulevard to assist the Long Beach Fire Department regarding an injured person, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive male adult off the roadway near the intersection of 49th Street and Del Amo Boulevard. LBFD rendered aid but determined the male deceased at the scene.

Homicide Detectives were notified of the death and responded to investigate. The preliminary investigation revealed the decedent sustained an injury to their upper body, and, at this time, the cause of the injury is not known. At this time, no suspect information is available.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene, took possession of the body, and will work to determine the cause of death, identify the victim, and notify the next of kin.
