Homicide detectives have made an arrest regarding the June 19, 2024 murder of Josue Manuel Matos.
Through their investigation, Homicide detectives identified the suspect as Aaron Garcia, a 25-year-old resident of Long Beach. On June 25, 2024, officers were assisting the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department with an eviction in the 400 block of Cerritos Avenue. During the course of the eviction, officers located and arrested Garcia inside the residence. The suspect was transported to Long Beach City Jail where he was booked for murder and a probation violation. He is being held without bail.
Detectives believe the victim and suspect were engaged in a conversation with each other before Garcia shot the victim. At this time, it is unknown whether the victim and suspect knew each other. The motive is under investigation.
Detectives will present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.

Homicide detectives are investigating the shooting death of a male adult.
On June 19, 2024, at approximately 6:32 p.m., officers responded to the 2600 Block of E Anaheim Street regarding a person who was down on the ground.
Upon arrival, officers located a male adult victim on the ground near Anaheim Street and Ohio Avenue. The victim was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. Officers rendered medical aid and attempted life-saving measures until being relieved by Long Beach Fire Department personnel. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Homicide Detectives responded to the scene to investigate the incident. Through their preliminary investigation, detectives determined the decedent was in the area engaging in conversation with at least one unknown subject when he was shot. The suspect fled the scene prior to the officers' arrival.
The victim has been identified as Josue Manuel Matos, a 38-year-old resident of Long Beach.
The investigation to determine the motive for the shooting remains under investigation. Detectives believe there were additional witnesses in the area and are encouraging them to come forward.
