Homicide detectives are investigating an assault that occurred on Oct. 26, 2025 in the 2500 block of Delta Avenue, which later led to the victim’s death.
On Oct. 26, 2025, at approximately 6:00 p.m., the LBPD was notified of a John Doe at a local hospital with major trauma who appeared to be the victim of an assault.
Police responded to the hospital.
Through their preliminary investigation, officers located a crime scene in the 2500 block of Delta Avenue.
Due to the severity of the injuries, Homicide detectives responded to the scene. Their investigation indicates the victim and suspect are brothers who were involved in an argument which escalated to a physical assault.
Detectives identified the suspect as Marcellus Johnson, a 56-year-old person experiencing homelessness. He was arrested on October 27 and booked for attempted murder. Bail was set at $1,000,000.
On Oct. 28, 2025, the victim succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Detectives filed a murder charge with the District Attorney’s Office and the suspect’s bail was increased to $2,000,000.
The decedent has been identified as Mark Johnson, a 56-year-old resident of Long Beach.
