The Long Beach Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting which occurred on Dec. 26, 2024.

At approximately 1:32 p.m., officers responded to the 5500 block of Atlantic Avenue regarding a person with a gun call. The calling party stated seeing a person with a gun inside the business.

Upon arrival, officers contacted the suspect who was in possession of what appeared to be a firearm outside of the business. Officers directed the suspect to drop the firearm. An officer discharged their service weapon.

The suspect immediately surrendered and was taken into custody. The suspect was not injured and was evaluated at the scene by Long Beach Fire Department personnel.

No officers were injured and no other injuries were reported.

A pellet gun was recovered at the scene.

Officers were equipped with body-worn cameras. LBPD is in the process of reviewing the footage and will make it available to the public pursuant to state legislation.

As with all officer-involved shooting incidents, the Department will be conducting a full and thorough multi-level review of the incident.
