Long Beach Police Department Child and Elder Abuse detectives have arrested a suspect in connection with the sexual assault of a minor and believe there may be additional victims linked to other unreported incidents.
On July 24, 2025, at approximately 8:24 a.m., detectives arrested Gabriel Vigil, a 34-year-old Long Beach resident, at his home near the area of Pacific Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway.
On July 1, 2025, a staff member from Cabrillo High School reported that a female teenage victim had been sexually assaulted off-campus by a substitute staff member, who was also working as a sports coach. Detectives immediately launched an investigation, gathering evidence and building a case that led to Vigil’s arrest.
Vigil was booked on one count of statutory rape, one count of arranging a meeting with a minor for lewd purposes, and one count of contacting a minor to commit a felony. Bail was set at $100,000.
Detectives believe there may be additional unreported incidents and encourage any possible victims to contact Child and Elder Abuse Detective Jared Asato at (562) 570-7321.
