Collision Investigation Detail detectives have arrested the driver responsible for two fatal traffic collisions.
Through their investigation, using forensic evidence and video footage, detectives identified that one suspect and a suspect vehicle were involved in two separate fatal traffic collisions.
- The first collision occurred on October 6, 2025 at the intersection of East 4th Street and Bonito Avenue, which resulted in the death of a bicyclist identified as Raul Augustin Gallopa, a 35-year-old resident of Long Beach.
- The second occurred on January 4, 2026 at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and East 6th Street, which resulted in the deaths of two motorists identified as Gilberto Lopez, a 21-year-old resident of Midway City and Bobbi Smith, a 24-year-old resident of Buena Park. Three other people were injured in the collision. This was a hit-and-run collision as the suspect fled the scene prior to officers' arrival.
Detectives identified the suspect as Ahkeyajahnique Owens, a 24-year-old resident of Long Beach. On January 7, 2026, she turned herself in at the Long Beach Police Department Public Safety Building. She was booked at the Long Beach City Jail on a warrant for felony vehicular manslaughter related to the October 2025 traffic collision. Bail was set at $200,000.
Detectives have presented the case related to the October 6, 2025 collision to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
A separate case related to the January 4, 2026 collision will be presented to the District Attorney’s Office next week.
