Collision Investigation Detail detectives are investigating a traffic collision that occurred on April 29, 2025, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

On April 29, 2025 at approximately 9:40 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 6500 block of Atlantic Avenue regarding an injury traffic collision involving a vehicle and an electric scooter. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and transported the male adult scooter operator to a local hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2019 Honda Accord, driven by a 19-year-old resident of Long Beach, was traveling northbound on Atlantic Avenue towards Artesia Boulevard. The driver failed to stop for a red light and collided with the scooter operator who was in a marked crosswalk.

The driver of the Honda Accord remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Since the collision, the scooter operator remained hospitalized due to the injuries he sustained. On May 3, 2025 he succumbed to his injuries. Detectives were notified of the death on May 7, 2025.

At this time, speed is being investigated as a possible factor in the collision.

The identity of the decedent is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Office of the Medical Examiner.
