Collision Investigation detectives are investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred on Sept. 1, 2025, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

At approximately 3:19 a.m., officers responded to the area of 7th Street and Federation Drive regarding an injury traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

Upon arrival, officers discovered an unconscious male adult pedestrian in the roadway. A bystander and officers rendered aid until personnel from the Long Beach Fire Department arrived and transported the pedestrian to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian was riding a scooter southbound outside a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a 2016 Hyundai Accent, driven by a 28-year-old resident of Laguna Beach, who was traveling straight eastbound on 7th Street. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.

At this time, speed, distracted and impaired driving do not appear to be factors in the collision.

The decedent's identification is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's office.

Anyone who may have witnessed this collision is asked to contact LBPD Collision Investigation Detail Detective Ashley Van Holland at (562) 570-7355.
