Collision Investigation Detail detectives are investigating a traffic collision that occurred on Feb. 26, 2025, which resulted in the death of a male adult.
On Feb. 26, 2025 at approximately 7:08 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Atherton Street and Ashbrook Avenue regarding an injury traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.
Upon arrival, officers discovered an unconscious male adult pedestrian in the roadway. Bystanders rendered medical aid until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and transported the pedestrian to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian was walking southbound in an unmarked crosswalk when a 2012 Honda Crosstour proceeded eastbound on Atherton Street and struck the pedestrian. The driver of the vehicle, a 21-year-old resident of Los Angeles, remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.
At this time, impaired driving does not appear to be a factor in the collision.
The identity of the pedestrian is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner.
