Collision Investigation detectives are investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred on Jan. 4, 2026, which resulted in the death of a female adult and a male adult.
At approximately 10:14 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and East 6th Street regarding a fatal hit and run traffic.
Upon arrival, officers located a female adult occupant of a gray Nissan lying on the roadway and a male adult occupant of a gray Nissan lying on the sidewalk. Both occupants were unresponsive. Officers performed life-saving measures until they were relieved by Long Beach Fire Department personnel. Long Beach Fire Department personnel determined both occupants deceased at the scene.
The driver of a black Kia was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver and front passenger of a gray Nissan were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The preliminary investigation indicates an orange 2021 BMW 330i was travelling eastbound on East 6th Street and entered the intersection with Atlantic Avenue through a red light. Upon entering the intersection, the orange BMW struck a gray 2022 Nissan Altima, that was travelling southbound on Atlantic Avenue through the intersection. The orange BMW continued eastbound and struck a black 2017 Kia Soul that was travelling northbound on Atlantic Avenue through the intersection.
Speed is being investigated as a possible contributing factor to this collision.
The identities of the two deceased vehicle occupants are being withheld, pending notification of next kin by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The driver of the orange BMW fled the scene of the collision.
