Collision Investigation Detail detectives are investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred on Sept. 23, 2025, later resulting in the death of a female adult.

At approximately 4:00 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Cherry Avenue and Curry Street regarding an injury traffic collision involving a pedestrian.

Upon arrival, officers found a female adult in the roadway suffering from serious injuries. Officers rendered medical aid until they were relieved Long Beach Fire Department personnel. Despite lifesaving efforts, the pedestrian was determined to be deceased at the scene.

The preliminary investigation indicated a 2015 Honda Civic was traveling southbound on Cherry Avenue and passed Curry Street when the driver observed a male adult pedestrian in the roadway. He swerved to avoid that person, however, he struck a female pedestrian.

At this time, neither speed, distracted driving, nor impaired driving appear to be factors in the collision.

The driver of the Honda Civic, a 30-year-old resident of Norwalk, remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.

The pedestrian was identified as Shalanda Young, a 36-year-old resident of Long Beach.
