Collision Investigation detectives are investigating a traffic collision that occurred on May 16, 2026, resulting in the death of a child.
At approximately 4:39 p.m., officers responded to an injury traffic collision involving a vehicle and a child near the area of Paramount Boulevard and 56th Street.
When officers arrived, personnel from the Long Beach Fire Department were providing medical aid to the child, who was then transported to a local hospital and later succumbed to their injuries.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2020 Honda Civic was traveling southbound on Paramount Boulevard when the child ran into the street and was struck by the vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle, a 27-year-old male resident of Paramount, remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.
At this time, speed, distracted driving, and driving under the influence are not believed to be factors in the collision.
“Our hearts are with this young child’s family, and everyone affected by this terrible traffic collision,” said Police Chief Wally Hebeish. “This is a heartbreaking reminder of how quickly unexpected tragedies can occur and is a solemn reminder of the importance of doing all we can to ensure everyone’s safety on our roadways.”
