Collision Investigation Detail detectives are investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred on July 27, 2025, resulting later in the death of a male adult motorcyclist.
On July 27, 2025 at approximately 8:19 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Warlow Road and Walnut Avenue regarding an injury traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a vehicle.
Upon officers' arrival, the motorcyclist had already been transported to Long Beach Memorial Hospital by Long Beach Fire Department personnel. The motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries three days later.
On Aug. 28, 2025, detectives were notified of the death of the motorcyclist.
The preliminary investigation indicated that a Dodge Ram truck was facing eastbound on Wardlow Road, waiting to make a left turn at the intersection, when it was struck from behind by a motorcyclist. Following the collision, the driver of the Dodge Ram remained on scene and rendered aid to the motorcyclist.
At this time, speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the collision.
The decedent has been identified as Mathew Tadao Nakatsuka, a 65-year-old resident of Long Beach.
