Collision Investigation Detectives are investigating a traffic collision that occurred on July 23, 2025 which resulted in the death of a child.
At approximately 6:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 5500 block of Ackerfield Avenue regarding an injury traffic collision involving a child.
When officers arrived, Long Beach Fire Department personnel were already on scene providing medical aid to a female pedestrian, a 1-year-old child. The child was transported to a local hospital, where, despite lifesaving efforts by paramedics and medical staff, succumbed to their injuries.
The preliminary investigation revealed the mother of the child was moving her vehicle in a carport area of an apartment complex. The child walked in front of the vehicle without the mother’s knowledge and was struck while the vehicle was in motion.
At this time, neither impaired driving nor distracted driving appear to be factors in the collision.
The identity of the 1-year-old pedestrian is being withheld due to her age.
