Collision Investigation detectives are investigating a traffic collision which occurred on March 22, 2024, which resulted in the death of a child.
At approximately 6:58 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of 55th Way and Paramount Boulevard regarding an injury traffic collision involving a truck and a pedestrian.
Upon arrival, officers located a female pedestrian, a child, lying in the roadway. Officers transported the child to a local hospital while attempting life-saving measures, however she succumbed to her injuries.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2020 Ford F-150, driven by a 25- year-old male resident of Downey, was traveling eastbound on 55th Way, just west of Paramount Boulevard, when it struck a pedestrian who was crossing 55th Way outside of a crosswalk.
The driver of the Ford F-150 remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. Speed, distracted driving and impaired driving are not believed to be factors in this collision.
The identity of the 4-year-old pedestrian is being withheld due to her age.
