Collision Investigation Detail detectives are investigating a traffic collision that occurred on April 23, 2025 which resulted in the death of a male adult.
On April 23, 2025 at approximately 10:56 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of 7th Street and Channel Drive regarding an injury traffic collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian.
Upon arrival, officers found a male adult pedestrian in the eastbound lane of 7th Street, east of Channel Drive. The Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded and determined the pedestrian to be deceased on scene.
The preliminary investigation indicates a 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 was traveling eastbound 7th Street towards West Campus Drive. While traveling eastbound on 7th Street, the driver of the 2024 Hyundai Ioniq observed a male adult pedestrian appear in front her vehicle in the roadway and she struck him. After striking the pedestrian, the driver pulled over to the curb on 7th Street and stopped her vehicle. While stopped, the driver observed a black truck drive over the pedestrian she had just struck. The black truck did not stop and fled the scene.
The driver of the Hyundai Ioniq remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.
Speed, distracted, and impaired driving do not appear to have contributed to this collision.
The identity of the adult male pedestrian is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Office of the Medical Examiner.
