Upon arrival, officers located a single overturned vehicle and a partially ejected adult male driver. Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived shortly after and determined the adult male was deceased.
The initial investigation revealed that the vehicle, a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer, was traveling southbound on Highway 47 at a high rate of speed. The vehicle crossed through the intersection with Ocean Boulevard and drove into an exit ramp for a shipping terminal. The vehicle collided with cement barriers and then overturned. There were no other vehicles involved and no passengers in the vehicle.
At this time, speed and impaired driving are suspected to have contributed to the collision.
The identity of the driver is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin. He is believed to be a resident of Long Beach.
