Collision Investigation Detail detectives are investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred on Sept. 12, 2025, resulting in the death of a female adult.
At approximately 12:16 p.m., officers responded to the area of Long Beach Boulevard and 68th Street regarding an injury traffic collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian.
Upon arrival, officers located an injured pedestrian. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded and transported the pedestrian to a local hospital for treatment, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2018 Chevrolet Camaro was traveling southbound on Long Beach Boulevard in the number one lane. The pedestrian was walking eastbound in the marked crosswalk at 68th Street when she was struck by the Chevrolet Camaro. The vehicle fled the scene; however, the driver returned approximately 40 minutes later.
The driver of the Chevrolet Camaro was arrested and transported to Long Beach City Jail for booking. The driver has been identified as Eric Dewayne Moody, a 65-year-old resident of Los Angeles. He was booked on one count of vehicular manslaughter and one count of felony hit-and-run. Bail was set at $50,000.
The pedestrian is only being identified as an adult female at this time. Her identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office.
At this time, speed, distracted driving, and impaired driving do not appear to be factors in the collision.
