Collision Investigation detectives are investigating a traffic collision that occurred on June 3, 2026, resulting in the death of a pedestrian.
At approximately 4:50 a.m., officers responded to the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Pacific Avenue regarding an injury traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.
Upon arrival, officers located an adult female pedestrian in the roadway. Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported the pedestrian to a local hospital. Despite lifesaving efforts, the pedestrian succumbed to her injuries sustained in the collision.
The preliminary investigation revealed the female pedestrian was walking southbound in the east crosswalk of Pacific Coast Highway against a red light. A 2019 Chevy Malibu, driven by a 19-year-old resident of Long Beach, was traveling westbound on Pacific Coast Highway. The Chevy Malibu entered the intersection with a green light and collided with the pedestrian.
The driver of the Malibu remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.
At this time, impaired driving, distracted driving and excessive speed are not believed to be a factor in this collision.
The name of the pedestrian is being withheld pending positive identification by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.
