Collision Investigation Detail detectives are investigating a traffic collision that occurred on Feb. 21, 2025 which resulted in the death of a male adult.

On Feb. 21, 2025 at approximately 7:24 p.m., officers responded to the area of Palo Verde Avenue and Atherton Street, regarding an injury traffic collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian.

When officers arrived on scene, Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) personnel were rendering medical aid to a male adult pedestrian. LBFD personnel transported the pedestrian to a local hospital, where he was listed in critical but stable condition.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2015 Toyota Camry was traveling northbound on Palo Verde Avenue as the pedestrian walked eastbound in the roadway. The Toyota Camry struck the pedestrian in lanes of traffic.

The driver of the involved vehicle remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

On March 2, 2025, Collision Investigation Detectives were notified the pedestrian had succumbed to his injuries while at the hospital.

The pedestrian was identified as Carleton Carlson, a 77-year-old resident of Long Beach.

At this time, speed and reckless driving are not being investigated as possible factors in the collision.
