Collision Investigation detectives are investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred on March 20, 2026, resulting in the death of a male adult.

At approximately 8:12 p.m., officers responded to the San Gabriel River Trail, south of the 405 Freeway, regarding an injury traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a bicyclist.

Upon arrival, officers located a male adult motorcyclist and a male adult bicyclist receiving medical aid from bystanders. Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported the motorcyclist and the bicyclist to a local hospital, both in critical condition. The motorcyclist later succumbed to his injuries sustained in the collision.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the motorcyclist was traveling southbound on the San Gabriel River Trail when he collided head-on with a bicyclist traveling in the opposite direction. Both parties were ejected from their vehicles and suffered critical injuries.

Witnesses stated that the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed without a helmet or lights. Impaired and distracted driving are not believed to be contributing factors in the collision.
